Most Pakistani homes have two living spaces: a formal drawing room for guests and a relaxed TV lounge for the family. Each needs a different layout. Use these ideas and spacing rules to arrange furniture that looks good, seats everyone and still leaves room to walk.

Spacing rules

  • Main walkways: 30–36 inches.
  • Sofa to centre table: 16–18 inches.
  • Centre table length: about two-thirds of the sofa.
  • TV distance: roughly 1.5–2.5 × the screen size.

Drawing room layouts

The classic 3+2+1

A 3-seater against the main wall, a 2-seater and a single chair on either side, all facing a centre table. It seats six, keeps conversation easy and works in rooms from about 12 × 14 ft.

Two sofas facing each other

Two matching sofas facing across a centre table, with a pair of accent chairs at one end. Elegant and symmetrical — ideal for larger 10-marla and 1-kanal drawing rooms.

TV lounge layouts

L-shape facing the TV

An L-shaped sofa in the corner with the long side facing the TV seats the whole family without crowding. Add a recliner or armchair if you need extra seats. See our L-shaped sofa guide.

Sofa plus two chairs

A 3-seater facing the TV with two armchairs angled at the sides keeps the room open and flexible — great for smaller lounges.

Living room furniture

Layouts by home size

Home Typical room Suggested layout
Apartment / 5 marla 11 × 12 to 12 × 14 ft 3-seater + 2 armchairs, or compact L-shape
10 marla 14 × 16 ft 3+2+1 set, or L-shape + accent chair
1 kanal 16 × 20 ft and up Two sofas facing + chairs, or two seating zones

Finish the room

  • Centre table: leave 16–18 inches from the sofa so you can reach your chai.
  • Side tables: one at each end of the sofa for lamps and cups.
  • TV unit: about as wide as the TV or wider, with closed storage for wires and the router.
  • Accent chair: a single statement chair adds colour and an extra seat.
Stalwart Media Console
A low media console hides wires and keeps the TV wall tidy — Stalwart Media Console, Rs. 65,000
Conte Center Table
A centre table about two-thirds the sofa length looks balanced — Conte Center Table, Rs. 35,000

Common mistakes

  1. Pushing every piece against the walls — pull the sofa forward a few inches to create a cosier group.
  2. A centre table that is too small or too far away.
  3. Blocking windows and AC vents with tall sofa backs.
  4. Too many small pieces — a few larger ones look calmer.

Frequently asked questions

How do I arrange furniture in a small drawing room?

Use a 3-seater with two armchairs or a compact L-shape, keep 30 inches of walking space and choose a centre table about two-thirds the sofa length.

How far should the sofa be from the TV?

About 1.5–2.5 times the screen size — for a 55-inch TV, roughly 7–11 feet.
