Buying a bed online is easy — until it arrives and the wardrobe door no longer opens. In Pakistan, bed and mattress sizes follow local standards that are slightly different from US or UK sizes, so it pays to know the numbers before you order. This guide gives you the exact sizes, the room each bed needs, and simple rules to pick the right one.

Quick answer

  • King: 72″ × 78″ (6 ft × 6.5 ft) — best for couples and rooms of 12 × 14 ft or more.
  • Queen: 60″ × 78″ (5 ft × 6.5 ft) — the smart choice for smaller master bedrooms.
  • Single: 36″–42″ × 78″ — for kids, guest rooms and hostels.
  • Always leave about 24–30 inches of walking space around the bed.

Bed and mattress sizes used in Pakistan

Most Pakistani furniture makers build beds to fit the mattress sizes sold by local foam and spring brands. The sizes below are the mattress (sleeping area) sizes; the bed frame itself is usually 4–8 inches longer and wider, depending on the headboard and side rails.

Bed size Mattress (inches) Mattress (feet) Best for
King 72 × 78 6 × 6.5 Couples, master bedrooms
Queen 60 × 78 5 × 6.5 Couples in smaller rooms
Double / Twin XL 42–48 × 78 3.5–4 × 6.5 Teenagers, single adults
Single 36 × 78 3 × 6.5 Kids, guest rooms

Tip: if you already own a mattress, measure it before ordering a new bed. A 2-inch difference is enough to leave a gap or stop the mattress from sitting flat.

King vs queen: which one should you buy?

A king bed gives each person about 36 inches of width — the same as a single bed each. A queen gives 30 inches each, which most couples find comfortable but snug, especially in summer. Choose a king if you share the bed with a child sometimes, if either of you is a light sleeper, or if the room is large enough. Choose a queen if the room is under 12 × 12 ft, or if you want space for a dressing table and a chair.

The 30-inch rule

Measure your room and subtract the bed size. You should have at least 24 inches (2 ft) on both sides of the bed and 30 inches at the foot so people can walk past comfortably. If a wardrobe opens towards the bed, add another 20–24 inches for the door swing.

What size bed fits your room?

Room size Recommended bed Space left for
10 × 10 ft Single or queen One side table
11 × 12 ft Queen Two side tables + small wardrobe
12 × 14 ft King Side tables + 3-door wardrobe
14 × 16 ft and up King with storage Dresser, chair and full wardrobe

In many 5-marla homes the master bedroom is about 12 × 13 ft, which suits a queen bed or a king bed with slim side tables. In 10-marla and 1-kanal homes, bedrooms are usually large enough for a full king bedroom set.

Bed frame details that change the size

  • Headboard: a tall, cushioned or wingback headboard can add 3–6 inches to the length.
  • Side rails: solid wood rails add 2–4 inches on each side.
  • Storage beds: drawers or a hydraulic lift need clear floor space to open — leave 24 inches on the drawer side.
  • Height: most beds sit 16–20 inches from the floor to the top of the frame; add your mattress thickness (6–10 inches) to know the final height.

How to measure before you order

  1. Measure the wall where the headboard will go, from corner to corner.
  2. Mark the bed size on the floor with masking tape and walk around it.
  3. Check that wardrobe and room doors open fully past the tape.
  4. Measure doorways and stair turns — a king bed arrives in parts, but the headboard is often one piece.
  5. Send us your room size and a photo on WhatsApp and our team will suggest the best fit.

Frequently asked questions

What is the king size bed size in Pakistan?

A standard king size bed in Pakistan takes a 72 × 78 inch (6 × 6.5 ft) mattress. The frame is usually 76–80 inches wide and 82–86 inches long.

Is a queen bed big enough for two people?

Yes. A queen bed (60 × 78 inches) gives each person about 30 inches of width, which suits most couples. Choose a king if you want more space or share the bed with a child.

What room size do I need for a king bed?

Plan for at least 12 × 12 ft, and ideally 12 × 14 ft, so you keep 24–30 inches of walking space around the bed and room for a wardrobe.

Can I get a bed made in a custom size?
